Vector and raster graphic, what is the difference and what is better?
Beginning designers often hardly imagine difference between vector and raster illustrations. So, let’s try to solve this problem.
Vector graphic is formula which is in every picture, what allows to enlarge this illustrations almost endlessly without losing of quality. It makes vector illustrations valuable. For making of this illustration we recommend to use Adobe Illustrator. Suitable format for photo banks EPS -8 and SVG. The point is that many photo banks use old but reliable format of 8-th version of illustrator for universality of vector illustrations. Often works are just semi-finished product and designers, who buy them have to remake it. That’s why they need your illustration to open and stay in suitable condition. In some photo banks this standard is format SVG, but their number is less. Necessary to say that such an old format limits illustrator, because new versions of program has new instruments. Also is not allowed to place raster graphic in vector picture.
Raster graphic is set of points. Enlarging of this picture enlarges points, consequently quality loses. This points summarize reslution of a picture. For example, resolution 800x400 means that width is 800 pixels and height is 400 pixels. It is 3.2 megapixels. Majority of banks don’t take works less than 4 megapixel. Raster graphic is photographs, illustrations Adobe Photoshop, 3D models. Using of this illustrations limits quality but it doesn’t make them less popular. Format for photobanks – JPEG. We recommend to use mirror cameras (for photographs), Photoshop (required for designer), 3D Max (for 3D illustrations).
You can use other graphic sets and technique, but we will study with these ones.
